Balmoral's small cap big idea

Company Interview23 Oct, 2025

ClearView’s strategic transformation is gaining traction, driven by a focused approach to the life insurance market. Wik Farwerck of Balmoral Investors expresses a preference for companies like ClearView (ASX:CVW) with robust balance sheets and disciplined capital management. He cites ClearView’s transition under Nadine Gooderick, highlighting her success in turning the business into a simplified and more competitive player within the sector.

Gooderick outlines how the decision to discontinue the wealth management segment and double down on life insurance was pivotal. This move enabled ClearView to prioritise operational efficiency and technological upgrades, notably the migration to a single Oracle cloud-based platform. According to Gooderick, this has significantly improved agility, efficiency, and advisor engagement. She points to a 10% growth in gross and enforced premiums, attributing this to a blend of new business, pricing increases, and ongoing upgrades to product offerings.

Both Farwerck and Gooderick see substantial growth opportunities, given the low penetration of life insurance among Australians. Efforts to improve affordability and accessibility through industry initiatives and digital innovations remain key. Gooderick envisions further market share gains and enhanced shareholder value as core business efficiencies continue and all legacy policies fully migrate to the modern platform.
