Mark Cooksey from ABx Group (ASX:ABX) outlines the company's progress with its chemical process to recycle aluminium smelting waste into industrial chemicals. ABx Group has entered a lease agreement with Rio Tinto Aluminium for a facility in Bell Bay, Tasmania, to build a pilot plant.
Mark explains that the pilot plant, supported by Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) and a $1 million conditional loan from the Tasmanian government, is a crucial step to reduce risks before committing to a full-scale commercial plant. The pilot aims to demonstrate the process's viability for future commercialisation, with construction set for this year.
Mark highlights the production of hydrogen fluoride and aluminium fluoride, promoting a circular economy. ABx Group is also advancing in bauxite and rare earth resources in Tasmania, Queensland, and New South Wales. Funding is challenging but strategic investor support remains key for securing the company's future.
