Company Interview28 Jul, 2026

With one in nine Australians living with asthma, Adherium (ASX: ADR) says its smart inhaler technology can significantly improve patient outcomes while reducing healthcare costs.

Chief Commercial Officer John Perry says the company's device fits over a standard inhaler, capturing real-time data on both medication use and inhaler technique. The information allows clinicians to monitor patient adherence, identify potential problems earlier and intervene before symptoms escalate into costly hospital visits.

The company's focus has shifted from research and development to commercial execution, with revenue growing 9.5 times over the past year as it expands its installed base and rolls out more devices.

Adherium's biggest opportunity lies in the United States, where a large clinical study with Intermountain Health delivered compelling real-world results. The data showed a 57% reduction in total healthcare costs, a 60% reduction in emergency department visits and hospital admissions, and a 235% improvement in medication adherence among patients using the technology.

Perry says those outcomes provide the clinical proof needed to accelerate discussions with major US health systems and insurers, with further commercial agreements expected over the coming months.

While Australia remains an important market, Adherium sees the scale and reimbursement opportunities in the US as the key driver of its next phase of growth.
